Sunless Tanning Info & Prep

For those people that cannot, should not, do not have time, or do not want to tan with Ultra Violet light, we have an excellent alternative! Sunless Spray Tanning is obtained by administering a tanning solution that is applied evenly, as a fine mist, by an experienced technician or an automated booth.

We have the Norvell Auto Revolution sunless booth which is as close as you can come to an actual custom airbrush tan. This high end sunless tanning booth is for people that are uncomfortable with a technician spraying them, but haven't had luck with sunless booths in the past. This booth sprays evenly & quickly, with only a few positions & instructions to follow.

The advantages of choosing a custom airbrush tan are:

An airbrush technician can spray your entire body or only the parts that you want tanned.

If you can't remember positions or instructions, an airbrush technician walks you through every step of the spray.

Either procedure will give you an amazingly natural looking tan.

Keep in mind that a sunless spray tan does NOT provide any protection from sunburn, as a natural (UV) Tan does.

SUNLESS TANNING PREP & CARE PROCEDURES:

Before your sunless tanning session:

Do not use any oil-based product within 24 hours of your Sunless Tan.

You should use an Ex-Mitt right before your spray. The Ex-mitt not only exfoliates for you, but it also preps your skin with the amino-acids required to develop a long lasting & even spray tan.

Your skin must be as clean and soft as possible, but to avoid stripping the necessary amino acids from your skin do not shower right before your spray. You also don't want to scrub your pores (really hair follicles), right before your spray. You need the natural oils to soften skin & protect the hair follicle from absorbing DHA and causing darker spots or larger looking "pores".

If you have extremely dry skin, you should definitely use an Ex Mitt immediately before your spray and a Hydrofirm spray immediately after your spray.

The day before receiving your sunless tan, shower using a non oil-based exfoliator made especially for sunless tanning. This may also be used to remove the rest of your spray, before getting another spray.

Make sure to shave the day before your Airbrush Tan (or better yet, wax at least 24 hours prior).

Do not apply any lotion, oil, make-up or deodorant, as they will inhibit the DHA from absorbing into the skin.

What to wear:

Wear dark loose clothing to your appointment. Do not wear tight under garments, shoes, or other clothing that may rub off the sunless tanning solution. You must avoid skin against skin contact, so make sure legs and body are covered.

During your sunless spray tan you may wear a dark bathing suit, underwear, thong, or nothing at all (whatever you feel comfortable wearing, which will give you the most bare skin for your sunless tan). To avoid staining, do not wear light colored clothing.

Apply lip balm.

We highly recommend Sticky Feet. Get 20% off sticky feet if you buy a prep kit. Sticky Feet keeps solution off your soles + can wear home, so that shoes don't rub off your spray!

You may want to put an old towel on your car seat, to avoid staining the seat. If it is raining, bring an umbrella!

AFTER YOUR SUNLESS TAN:

Do not plan any activities that will cause you to sweat or cause your clothing or skin to rub against any areas of skin for at least 12 hours (preferably 18 hours)*.

Do not bathe or swim for at least 18 hours* after your sunless tan. It is preferable to wait 24 hours before using soap. This includes washing your hands, although with the Auto Revolution, we recommend a light hand rinse after 4-8 hours.

Do not use body scrubs, exfoliators, luffas or harsh soaps after your sunless tan (unless you wish to remove the tan).

Use only mild salon quality body wash.

After that, apply only a salon quality lotion that is designed specifically for tanners and will not dry out your skin, as many over-the-counter lotions will.

To extend your tan further, we highly recommend using a salon quality Tan Extender. Wait at least 48 hours after your sunless tan, (unless you need to fix any areas you may have smudged) then only use as needed to keep tan even as it starts to fade due to exfoliation.

* If using Venetian ONE solution, you may rinse in 1-3 hours! Color will develop over the next 24 hours.

It includes a packet of Vivid Amplify PH equalizer, after spray tan extender, & moisturizer (as well as sunless eye protection & nose guards upon request).
